The Porsche 356 was Ferdinand Porsche’s first production car to wear the Porsche badge. Though it may owe roots to the humble Volkswagen Beetle, Porsche ensured that the 356 was substantially different from its German cousin. Originally built in a small factory in Gmünd, Austria, the factory was moved to Zuffenhausen once demands rose – and of course there was demand. Customers could not get enough of the nimble Porsche sports car. It was configurable to endless specification with various engine offerings released throughout its 17 year production life. Offered in coupe, cabrio, roadster, and the rare speedster, 356 buyers had many variants to choose from.
Produced in four different iterations depending on production year (starting with Pre-A, A, B, C) this 1962 356B T6 is the revised version of the 356B (356B T5’s were produced 1959-61, and 356B T6’s were produced from ‘62-’63), identified by its signature split, rear, grille, fuel filler cap on the front right fender, and a larger, wrap around, rear window.
This particular 356B was delivered new as a Super, in Smyrna Green, with a green tinted windshield and black interior. The thrummy sound from it’s numbers matching flat-four gives the 356 a true vintage feel, but the Super engine gives it very entertaining thrust to do any kind of spirited driving one may seek. With road manners that set the tone for sports cars for many years following, it operates, handles, and rides like a much more modern vehicle. This vehicle recently participated in the Copper State 1000 Road Rally, finishing without issue.
With a recent glass-out respray in it’s striking and rare original color of Smyrna Green over black leather, this B Coupe is a classic color combination which only contributes to the car’s period correct appeal. After a significant recommissioning which covered a transaxle rebuild, the replacement of essential suspension components, and an engine tune-up, the vehicle is in stunning, highly authentic and original condition, and ready to be enjoyed.
This vehicle is sold service-current with extensive documentation of service work and restoration.
